How to Sell Short
I’m an investment professional, and I’m going to talk about, how to sell short. Now, you might think of selling short as the flip side of buying, which is completely the opposite. You buy shares, the price goes up, and then you sell the shares and gain the difference between what you paid for, and what you sold it for. The reverse is completely the opposite of selling short, in other words you have to borrow the shares, and the shares have to be available today. So you need to find out from your firm if those shares are going to be available before you can sell short, and then, the shares actually go down in price and then you repurchase them at the lower price, and then you make the gain from the difference. Let me take you through a few steps that can make this process a little easier for you. One, is to set up a margin account at the broker drum, first, to be able to borrow shares, you have to have a margin account, which is a, an account which is more of a borrowing feature added to the account, it’s not just a straight account, or a straight brokerage account, it’s an account with a margin feature. Two, is to use that margin feature to borrow the shares of stock in the account, that way you’ll have to go to a broker and request that they have their shares available, or can get the shares to borrow for you. Three is to know the source of condition that work, selling short can be an effective strategy, but I always recommend that you, sort of get your feet wet before you do this. Make some trades that are not realizing trades, trades that are in practice before you really dive in and get this done for you. And there’s a lot of watching the markets and see how they go up and down because selling short really works much better in a market that is on a downward trend. Five, is what really naked shorting today is without having those securities available, and that is not pretty much required today. There are some rules that are involved, and you need to check that with your broker term, any information that’s provided here may not be suitable for everyone, any investment recommendation, or personalized device.
