Exercise & Fitness Tips : What Is Aerobic Training?
Hi I’m Ashley Gas, strength and conditioning specialist, with brilliantathlete.com. What is aerobic training? Aerobic training is a type of training that is done in the presence of oxygen, so it’s a type of energy system training. Aerobic is longer duration training, typically is opposed to anaerobic training which is more high intensity speed-based work. So for aerobic training, you would go out for a walk, some of you might be on a program now where you’re walking for 20 to 30 minutes a day, that’s aerobic training. Some of you might be training for a marathon, and going for runs multiple times a week, that is also aerobic training. Another style of aerobic training takes place in the gym, and it’s referred to, typically as the circuit style strength training, and what that means that you would move from one exercise, onto another, and another, and another, so a series of strength exercises done, with very little rest in between exercises, now, it really, really get your heart rate going. Aerobic exercise is best combined with overall strength program as well.
